Gov. John Bel Edwards said he is further limiting the size of gatherings to fewer than 50 people and limiting restaurants to delivery, takeout and drive-thru orders only.
'More aggressive steps are necessary to fight the spread of COVID-19 across Louisiana,' Edwards said in a statement.
Edwards said he spoke to President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence about the COVID-19 situation in Louisiana. He said both told him that Louisiana needs to step up efforts to control the spread of the new coronavirus.
'They were very clear that we must significantly expand our mitigation efforts to slow the progress of COVID-19 before there is more community spread. Action must be taken now, even in areas where there are no confirmed cases yet,' Edwards said.
Edwards said operations may be able to resume on April 13, but that decision will be reevaluated seven days before the measure is lifted.
